Hibernians closed the gap on league leaders Valletta, to two points after beating Sliema Wanderers 2-0 at the National Stadium . Two goal from Edison Dos Santos sealed the victory for the 2009 champions.

After a very cautious start from both sides, Hibernians opened the scoring in the seventeen minute. Clayton Fallia slid a precise corner and top scorer Edison Dos Santos header beaten Henry Bonello. In the thirty minute Mark Miller side double the score line as striker Tarabai powerful header beaten helpless Bonello for a precious three points. Five minutes from the end of the match Cleaven Frndo scored a consolation for the Wanderers.

Hibernians now have twenty nine points from twenty three games as they will again be in action next Saturday against strugglers Floriana.

Shola stars as Stripes wins 3-1

Full score: Birkirkara 3-1 Floriana

Haruna Shola scored one goal and produce an impressive display to give Birkirkara a 3-1 win against Floriana that keeps the pressure for a European place. Nikola Vikanac header on stroll of half time and Avila Perez injury time tap in gave an important three points for Paul Zammit.

Ten minutes from the end of the match Floriana was reduce to nine games as captain Manolito Micallef and Eric Akoto was dismissed by Adrian Azzopardi

The Stripes now joined Floriana in third place with 21 points from 23 games.

Floriana coach opted for a defensive 4-5-1 formation as Brazilian Alanson Da Silva was preferred as lone striker supported by versatile Malcolm Licari. Ivan Woods is among the substitutes after he picked a slight knock against Valletta ten days ago.

Birkirara mentor Paul Zammit started a more offensive 4-4-1-1 formation as former Floriana midfielder started behind striker Shola Shodiya Haruna.

19min: Shola Shodiya opened the score as his powerful low strike from the edge of the penalty area gave no chance to Dutch goalkepper Patrick Jansen.

31min: Floriana stiker Arilson Da Silva missed a glorious chance as he failed to connect a cross by John Mintoff.

32min: Floriana equalised as a Pablo Doffo free kick was connected by Akoto as he rattled the crossbar and from the rebound veteran Malcolm Licari headed in.
