Without setting any houses on fire Floriana managed to beat Cottonera by three clear goals and now lead the standings on 13 points from 5 games while cottonera   are in fourth position on 7 points also from 5 games.

The first action was created by Floriana as Neil Tabone square-passed the ball to Mauro Sultana who then back-heeled the ball to Neil Spiteri who missed the upright by inches from inside the area.

In a reaction by Cottonera they won a corner kick on the right flank which was well-taken by Gabriel Calleja and after the ball was partly cleared outside the areaFloriana keeper Tyrone Gauci had to dive and save the rebound shot by the same player.

In the 18th minute Cottonera player Gianluca Sultana was shown the yellow card for simulating a foul in the penalty area.

Floriana created three more actions. Tabone served Spiteri in the area and he missed the upright by inches. Cottonera won a free kick just outside the area after Sultana was fouled and the ball hit the defensive barrier and was cleared away from the free kick by the same player.

A flag kick by Caruana created havoc in Cottonera’s area but somehow the ball was cleared away to safety.

In the 65th minute Floriana doubled their lead when Caruana chased what looked like a lost ball on the right flank and despite being challenged by two opponents he managed to cross the ball in the area to substitute Demsey Ferriggi who lobbed the ball over Cauchi and into the net.
