Floriana and Valletta clash in this week’s main game

Another derby is just around the corner, Floriana and Valletta are just two points separated in the table as eternal rivals look to try and knock each other and continue to put pressure on leaders Hibernians.

Floriana coach Michael Woods has no selection problems and also is eyeing the first league win against the Citizens since season 2007 /2008.

Valletta coach Jesmond Zerafa welcomes back captain Gilbert Agius although probably he will be on the bench. Ramon dos Santos also could make the eighteen men squad. Playmaker Ryan Fenech is still suspended for the lilywhites.

Day eight continues tomorrow as Stephen Azzopardi’s side Qormi take on Marsaxlokk at the National stadium kick off 15.00.

Marsaxlokk mentor Winston Muscat has no selection problems as youngsters Jean Paul Farrugia and Sacha Borg are back for the South siders, while Qormi’s coach is expected to hand the debut to the Italian defender Federico Mirarchi, but foreigners Carlos Vela and Karamanolis are unavailable. Earlier this week Marsaxlokk officially announced that Anthony Lee Baldacchino has appointed acting President.

In Saturday’s second match strugglers Birkirkara take on rejuvenated Hamrun Spartans at 17.00hrs.

Paul Zammit is still in search for his first win with Stripes after he returned last week in the 2-1 lost against Valletta.

Birkirkara mentor Paul Zammit has no selection problems with Shawn Bajada and defender Angus Buhagiar are set to return for the Stripes.  Hamrun coach Jesmond Zammit has some problems as defender Roderick Fenech is out for the rest of the season after he suffered a cruciate injury. Scottish striker Dene Shields and defender Steve Borg also could skip tomorrow’s match with injuries. First team players Massimo Grima and Gianluca Galabretta are out after they picked up their fourth yellow Card.

Birkirkara and Hamrun Spartans start today’s match just three points adrift of each others.

Day eight will continue also on Sunday as still searching for on field win Balzan Youths take on eleventh placed Tarxien Rainbows at the National Stadium- kick off at 15.00.

Balzan’s mentor Ivan Zammit will have playmaker Pedro Calcado back after he missed last encounter but Clifton Ciantar is unavailable after he picked up the fourth yellow card in the match against Floriana.

Tarxien Rainbows under fire Noel Coleiro is without striker Daniel Mariano Bueno who picked up his fourth yellow card in the 4-2 defeat against Marsaxlokk last Monday. Tarxien are still in search for their only second win this season.
