Full Time score : Sliema Wds 0 – Mosta FC 2

Some smiles at last on the faces of Mosta FC committee members as their team registered the first three points of the season with a 2-0 win over Sliema.

Obinna Obiefule

The Blues led by coach Steve D’Amato were brave enough to stay calm in the rough seas especially in the second half when Ryan Grech was red carded and had to play with ten men against an offessive Sliema Side.  Mosta were coming from two consecutive defeats in their opening games of the new season so today they saw their first earnings after the hefthy spending campaign in Summer led by President Kajju and Co.

Sliema Wanderers coach Alfonso Greco fielded a 4-3-3 formation as Italian Facchini was making his debut and Andrew Decesare and Mark Scerri were fielded from the first minute. Argentinean Pablo Gonzalez was omitted from the first 18.

Mosta mentor Steve D’Amato fielded an offensive 4-4-2 formation as Obinna Obiefule and Daniel Bogdanovic started upfront. The former Melita and Hamrun coach made three changes as Bryan Agius, Ousseni Zongo and Ryan Grech replaced Emmanuel Okafor, Jonathan Bajada and Steve Bezzina in the strarting list. Bezzina was out of the 18 men squad.

The game was hot tempered with several rough fouls in the latter part of the match. In one instance veteran Ivan Woods (who came in as a late substitute) did not return the ball to Mosta after Haber had thrown it out specifically to let the medical staff in as a Mosta player was grounded. Woods was given thumbs down by the Mosta fans for lack of fair play.

12min: Mosta opened the score when Daniel Bogdanovic’s cross was headed in the back of the net by a header of Obinna Obiefule.

89min: In a counter attack Obinna Obiefule drives past two defender and keeper Bonellu to snatch the ball into the net to secure the full points for his team.
