First league win for Balzan and Hamrun

In today’s opening match Balzan turn defeat into victory as they beaten Qormi 2-1 to register their first win this season. Brazilian Elton Alexandre da Silva was the two goal provider for the former Youths

Balzan FC now have four points from 6 games and are in tenth place three points above Melita and Rabat Ajax

Brazilian Pedrinho was back for Balzan after missing the last game but Stefan Giglio and Malcolm Licari were both unavailable.

Qormi had a bright start and on the 9th minutecould have taken the lead when they were awarded a penalty after Yessous Camilleri handled the ball inside the area. Italian Vincenzo Pisani’s effort was saved by Matthew Camilleri.

Qormi finally took the lead as Pisani concluded a good move on the left with a pass for Abubakar Bello-Osagie who slotted the ball past goalkeeper Camilleri.

Just minutes pass the hour mark, Balzan equalised when Martin Deanov served Elton Alexandre da Silva who hit low past goalkeeper Steve Sultana.

In the second Hamrun also turned defeat into victory as they came from a goal down to beaten the Amateurs’ 3-1.

It was the Spartans first win after 3 draws and two losses, last one an 8-2 humiliation against Valletta.

Melita opened the score as Luke Micallef hit past goalkeeper Andrea Cassar after he was served by Julian Galea.

On the 28th minute Hamrun Spartans draw level as defender George Gribbon committed an own goal.

Hamrun Spartans went ahead for the first time in the match, when two from the restart Gianluca Calabretta slot home after fine work by Terence Vella and Boshov.

Before the end of Match, Hamrun Spartans increase the lead as Terence Vella complete the route after a good run by man of the match Boshov for an important three points.
