Birzebbuga WM   2            Marsa   1
The final score does not reflect the true difference between the two teams. Had Birzebbuga taken all the chances that they created the final score would have been different. They now occupy second spot on 26 points from 12 games while Marsa are in bottom placing having only 5 points from same number of games.
The first period was dominated by Birzebbuga as they created most of the actions and Marsa mounted only two actions.
Chris Cutajar served Joshua Farrugia in the area and Marsa keeper Chris Agius foiled him with a timely sortie. Cutajar then released the same palyer on the right flank who returned the compliment to Nicolai Tabone and his perfect cross found no takers to apply the killer touch.
In the first action by Marsa, Darren Galea was fouled outside the area and from the free kick by Clyde De Battista, Birzebbuga keeper Matthew Saleeb partly saved his shot and the ball was cleared.
Birzebbuga opened the score in the 28th minute as Cutajar pounced on a loose ball outside Marsa’s area and he scored with a rising shot from 30 metres, their joy was however short-lived as hardly a minute later Marsa equalised when Kyle Schembri, who entered as a substitute 10 minutes earlier, entered the area and was tripped by a defender and from the resultant penalty Brady Agius made no mistake.
On the half hour Birzebbuga restored their slender lead when Jean C. Cassar was fouled outside the area and Cutajar scored a beauty with a curling shot in the bottom right hand corner.
Birzebbuga mounted two more actions before the break. Joshua Farrugia served Tabone with a through ball and Agius was forced to come out of his charge and kick the ball out of play and Cutajar served Tabone with a through ball, Agius came out of his charge and fisted the ball away and is it came in the path of Farrugia he drove out from the rebound.
Very few were the actions worthy of note after the resumption. A flag kick from the left flank by Darren Galea created havoc in Birzebbuga’s area but somehow the ball was cleared away to safety. Agius then had to dive and save the ball to a corner from a rebound shot by Cassar after seconds earlier he partly saved a long range shot by Farrugia.
In the 59th minute Marsa came close an equaliser. Brady Agius floated a perfect high ball in the area from a free kick and after Saleeb partly saved the ball it hit a Marsa forward and finished slightly out.
Manuel Azzopardi should have scored two more goals in the 61st and 65th minutes. First he drove over the bar from two metres with only Agius to beat after a perfect cross by Piscopo and then he did likewise from after another perfect cross by substitute Chris Mangion.
