First edition of Malta Taekwondo SpiritWednesday, December 1, 2010, 19:00
Several athletes from the Taekwondo Dragon Club have participated in the first local Taekwondo open championship with the name of Malta Taekwondo Spirit that was held on Sunday 31st October 2010 at St. Matin’s College. For this event a number of foreign players from Cyprus and Luxembourg have participated as well. The athletes who represented the Taekwondo Dragon Club were: Dylan Mc Cormick, Emma Simmons, Lynsey Fenech, Jody Bruno, Luke Ebejer, Amanda Borg, Kylie Magro, Kyle Vassallo, Christian Sant, Joseph Caruana and Henry Aquilina.
The following have won their respective category against their Maltese counterpart:
Jody Bruno, Kylie Magro, Joseph Caruana & Lynsey Fenech.
For some of the club’s competitors was their first experience. Mc Cormick, Vassallo & Simmons all lost against their foreign counterpart who resulted very tough to tackle.
On Saturday 23 October 2010, the club has organized its Annual Gozo Training Camp at the Rabat Sports Complex together with the Tenchi Ryu Karate Jutsu Club lead by Sensei Joe Portelli, the Gozo Spirit Combat Club and the Gozo Kick Boxing Club lead both by Sensei Mario Saliba. Sabomnim Formosa took the lead and in fact he took the core of the seminar by emphasizing on the necessary training required in order to achieve proper kicking dynamics. Sensei Saliba demonstrated some Kickboxing exercises followed by a number of self-defence applications derived from Spirit Combat. To conclude was the turn of Sensei Portelli who demonstrated several self-defence applications deriving from several patterns forming part of their training syllabus.
On 2 October 2010, the club has conducted the last Promotion Test for this year for its Kids classes with the following succeeded in their respective new rank:
Yellow Tab (9th Kup) – Matthias Briffa
Yellow Belt (8th Kup) – Joseph Caruana; Deborah Caruana, Samantha Caruana, Amanda Borg, Kylie Magro, Shania Maria Magro, Jody Bruno & Christian Sant
Green Tab (7th Kup) – Luke Ebejer & Nadine Ebejer

Currently the club is preparing a number of athletes to participate in the 25th edition of the Park Pokal Open Championship that is going to be held during the 4th and 5th of December in Sindilfigen, Germany. Very soon the club should commence Taekwondo classes in the locality of Kirkop.
