First Division transfers and possible moves

First division promotion hopefuls  Gzira United appointed veteran coach Eric Schembri to lead the squad in the First division. The former  Floriana talisman replaced coach Joe Grech after the Gzira committee decided  to release the former Floriana coach one year earlier from his contract.  The appointment of Schembri was widely expected due to the fact that he hails from this town and played for the Maroons.  The Maroons are also to engage in talks with Valletta midfielder David Camilleri (with Hamrun last season) as he’s expected to continue his career in the first division after long and successful years in top league.  Gzira united president Joe Pace also offered a contract to Alfred Effiong, but the 26 years old is still weighting his options. The former Marsaxlokk striker is set to be released by champions  Valletta.

Last season’s fourth placed Zejtun Corinthians are set to sign 21 year old Adrian Carabott from Valletta. The youngster was on loan with Tarxien Rainbows last season as he also score some important goals for the Rainbows. He also played for the Corinthians two years ago as he had huge success. He won the second division championship and the knock out with the Blues. He also was runner up  in the second division player of the year at the Malta Football Awards. Zejtun will play Valletta round about 20,000 euros for the 21 year old.

Zejtun are also set to invest more in the youths as last week tried out former Pieta midfielder Domenic Mifsud, Dylan Zarb and Hamrun Spartans Diego Cuucciardi in a match against the Malta under 19. A close source confirm the Blues are expect to retain former Floriana and Valletta midfielder Dylan Zarb as he impressed against the Malta youngsters.

Naxxar offered a one year contract to Argentinean midfielder Pablo Doffo. The former Hibernians midfielder is expected to leave the Greens after the adventure of the Europa League. The contact of Pablo Doffo expired in the end of July. Naxxar Lions are also set to rejected an offers for their star player Darren Falzon. as the under 21 international impressed during last season in the first division.

Another promotion hopefuls Vittoriosa Stars agreed a new contracts for Marcelo Pereira, Gary Muir and Luke Vella Critien. The Reds are expect to mount a serious championship challenge this season after a postive run later last seaon. The Reds also enquired about the availability of Pieta Hotspurs 18 year old Terence Agius, but was rejected by the Blues as Agius is a a huge part of the Hotspurs setup.

Mqabba is set to appoint Kirkop United coach Albert Busutill. The 42 year old replaced Clive Mizzi after he left for Sliema Wanderers. Busutill was in charge of Kirkop two years ago as he guided the club from third division and a respect position in the second division this season.

Dingli Swallows is set to appoint Jason Cachia as their coach after part ways with Bulgarian Borislav Giorev. The Swallows are also targeting former players Ryan Mintoff, Ryan Sammut and Lydon Micallef of Zejtun

 Recently relegated Marsaxlokk will retain coach Anton Cremona. The former Valletta assistant coach took in charge of the south siders last October after he replaced Winston Muscat.
