The first ever Cisk Lager Double League has been concluded at the Eden SuperBowl, after a season comprising 23 weekly fixtures, involving eleven bowling teams. This inaugural league was rounded off with a presentation ceremony, held at the SuperBowl, wherein individual bowlers and the top placed teams were rewarded for their achievements.

The Cisk Lager Doubles is a ‘handicap’ league, meaning that participants are given extra handicap points per game, according to their bowling ability. This assures a more level playing field, and so attracts bowlers of varying capabilities.

The presentation ceremony was hosted by Neil Dent, SuperBowl General Manager, and was attended by Mr.  Simon De Cesare, Director of the Eden Leisure Group, while the prizes were awarded by Mr. Marco Debono, on behalf of Simonds Farsons Cisk PLC. A cash prize fund totaling €4,000 was awarded to the top four teams.

“On behalf of Farsons and its’ flagship brand CISK Lager, I congratulate all the bowlers that competed in this first CISK Lager Doubles League, making it the big success that it was.” commented Mr. Marco Debono, Brand Executive for CISK Lager.

The winners of the 1st Cisk Lager Doubles League were Ramis, an outfit made up of top flight bowlers, John Balani, Mark Spiteri and Ray Falzon Reale. Ramis just managed to snatch the top spot in the final ‘position round’ fixture in week 23. Ramis had entered the clash in second place, and faced then leaders DUWPA, who were just three points clear (127 – 124), with eight up for grabs in the final match. DUWPA were made up of long time bowling partners Kenneth Arpa and Kenneth Arpa.

Ramis were up to the challenge, easily taking the opener of the three game series, 389 – 499 for the early lead, and then doubled that to 0 – 4 by taking game two 401 – 454. Going into the final game with a 163 pin cushion meant that the title was in their grasp, but DUWPA then came back very strongly to win the game with a massive 512 against Ramis’ more subdued 381 effort. Ramis held on to the extra series points by just 32 pins in the end (1302 – 1334), for a 2 – 6 victory, meaning they managed to snatch the Cisk Lager Doubles title by a solitary match point (130 – 129), to leave DUWPA in the runners up position.

Third and fourth place were contested between Peugeot 208 and Volkswagen up!, the former winning 6 – 2 to make sure of the higher position on a season total of 123, ahead of Volkswagen up! On 116 points in fourth place.
