The Assocjazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karozzi (ASMK) opens the summer season’s events on Saturday, starting at 7pm till late at night. Races will take place under artificial lighting and also both drivers and vehicles engine will be more efficient in the evening’s lower temperatures. Next Saturday’s is the tenth event of the National ASMK Pasta-Poiatti Autocross Championship 2017/2018.

Meanwhile on Saturday 2nd June, ASMK organized the Final Race of the Modified Autocross Class A which was still pending from 26 November 2017. Andrew Pisani on a Vaxuhall Nova won this final, followed by Jean Paul Grech on Peugeot 106, Noel Zammit on Fiat Punto and Vince Farrugia on Volkswagen Polo.

After this Autocross Final and after nine events,  5 competitors still stand a chance of winning the championship despite the fact that currently Vince Farrugia is leading the list,  followed by Jean Paul Grech and Karl Micallef, both with 163 points each. Noel Zammit has 155 points while Andrew Pisani has 151 points.

In the Standard Autocross Class Deane Farrugia is leading on his Citroen AX with 60 points followed by Nicovich Chircop on Peugeot 106 with 47 points. Johann Vella on an Opel Nova is still in the 3rd place overall with 27 points. Kyle Agius  on a Renault Campus has 21 points while Jerome Peplow on a Kia Avella and Chris Formosa on a Ford Fiesta have 19 points each.

Meanwhile, a team of five Maltese Enduro Motorcycle Riders participated in the ‘Red Bull Hare Scrambles’ Hard Enduro Annual event in Erzberg of Austria. The Maltese team was made up of Jamez Zahra and Gary Debono both racing on Sherco motorcycles, Bernard Sammut and Matthew Gauci both on a Beta motorcycles and Ian Scicluna on a KTM motorcycle.

The five Maltese Riders had to fight hard to qualify among more than 1500 competitors from around the world who competed in this hard Enduro annual event. During Saturday’s qualifying events for only 500 riders, the Malta Team qualified with four riders from the five entrants for the Sunday’s 4 hours long Hard Enduro race on all kinds of Off road tracks and different terrain beyond one’s imagination.

Sammut qualified in the 182nd spot, Zahra placed 194th, Gauci placed in the 223rd place and Debono finished in the 359th place. Previous Maltese contestants never managed to place in the top 500 Finalists riders group. Scicluna did not qualify due to a mechanical fault.

In the Sunday’s race, Matthew Gauci finished in 134th place and reached the 15th Checkpoint from 20, Bernard Sammut finished in 160th place, James Zahra finished in 182nd place and Gary Debono finished in 257th place overall. These were very good results for the Malta Team’s 1st attempt when compared to the overall entrants Race Final Score Board as only 9 contestants from the 500 qualified riders reached the final Checkpoint.

On a different note and in preparation for the Vans Demolition in July, the Association reminds those interested competitors that have not yet registered, that they still stand the chance to do so on Thursday 14 June 2018 at the Association’s Club House in Mtarfa. This will be the last meeting for the registered Demolition competitors. The meeting starts at 8. 00pm.
