First AA Parts Open Malta Challenge for model boats to be held in Malta

On 30th October till 1st November at Pretty Bay Birżebbuġa

The AA Parts Open Malta Challenge for model boats, regulated by the International One Metre Yacht Racing Association, is being held for the first time with Malta being the first nation to host such an event. The event will see 34 skippers from Sweden, Turkey, England, Denmark, Ukraine and Malta, competing under the scrutiny of the international French judge Patrick Villain and Ivan Zammit race principal officer.

AA Parts, the supplier of radio control Matrix sails and their related masts, booms and fittings and Matrix Sails by Alberto Spada, are hosting this event by sponsoring Darren Abdilla, the current Malta Champion in this field. Darren has taken the sport to a higher level by participating abroad in the International One Meter Europeans Championship (IOM). For the first time last year when he managed to remain in fleet competing against renowned skippers such as Brad Gibson and Graham Bentock of the UK, as well as Peter Stollery, all of whom are former World Champions, as well as Zvonko Jelacic of Croatia, and Pierluigi Puthod of Italy. Last June Darren won first place in Umbria at Castiglione del Lago  where he managed to snatch the title from three former Italian Champions whilst placing third in Istanbul International remote control cup in Turkey.

The Malta Challenge event will start on Thursday 29th October with a welcome reception at Montekristo Estates followed by the first races which will be held at Pretty Bay Birzebbuga from Friday 30th to Sunday 1st November between 10.00am and 4.00pm following which a presentation will be held.
