Exiles stun San Giljan

One of the discussions amongst local waterpolo enthusiasts over the past weeks has been whether the so called top water polo teams should play in the same division as the smaller teams given that these rarely offer any stiff opposition. But Exiles proved the skeptics wrong on Tuesday morning when they managed an excellent 10-8 victory against title contenders San Giljan who have thus lost precious points in their quest for the championship.

Exiles immediately went on the offensive, leaving little space for their Balluta opponents by going 7-2 up at half time and keeping their healthy advantage into the third session. San Giljan’s reaction arrived too late in the game and although they won the final session 4-1 this was not enough to take any points from this game. Although one can attribute this loss to their lack of aggressiveness in defence, San Giljan are missing the services of ace marksman Matthew Zammit and only time will tell how this will impact their progression in this year’s campaign.

With this win, Exiles remain in contention for the fifth berth in the preliminary round which would enable them to play in the First Division for the second part of this season.

season has already started it has been made official that this year the first division will be made of 5 teams and one of malta’s top sport website does not even know this fact….

with regards to exiles a big congratulations as they deserve it, and if you had seen any of their matches you would see that exiles caused very big problems even to sliema and especially to sirens

[Sportinmalta] we have amended our report due to an oversight. thanks for pointing it out
