Ribiero scores hat-trick as Sliema suffer first defeat – Floriana beat Balzan

Hamrun Spartans scored four goals in just ten minutes to notch their second win of the season in Monday’s second match at the National Stadium.

Hamrun Spartans now have seven points from seven games. While Sliema Wanderers suffered their first defeat of the season and stayed fourth with twelve points.

Hamrun coach Jesmond Zammit started an initial 4-2-3-1 formation as Gaetan Spiteri, debutant Dene Shields and Kevin Sammut supported lone striker Anderson Mendes Ribiero. Hamrun Spartans had registered their first win of the season two weeks 1-0 against Mosta.

Sliema Wanderers coach Danilo Doncic started as usual with a 4-3-3 formation as Brazilian Jorge Santos Silva and Bulgarian Daniel Mitev supported centre striker Cleaven Frendo. Sliema Wanderers were coming from a disappointed 1-1 draw against Balzan Youths.

First Half

19min: Cleaven Frendo scored his first goal of the season and also his first for Sliema Wanderers as he tapped in from inside the penalty box after he was served by Roderick Bajada.

24min: Bulgarian Mitev tried his luck from outside  the penalty box but his powerful shot was off target.

45min: Penalty for the Spartans!!! Sliema Wanderers goalkeeper Henry Bonello saved Ribiero low shot.

Second Half

55min: Sliema goalkeeper Henry Bonello neutralized Lee James Agius long shot.

67min: Just one minute after he made his debut for Sliema Wanderers goalkeeper Anthony Curmi failed to catch the ball and Anderson Mendes Ribiero placed the ball in an empty net.

70min: Anderson Mendes Ribiero put Hamrun upfront after he headed Massimo Grima cross.

75min: Anderson Mendes Ribiero scored his Hat Trick after he connected to Gaetan Spiteri cross. 

79min: Dene Shields make it 4-1 after he again beaten helpless Anthony Curmi.

85min: Sliema Wanderers reduced the gap thanks to Daniel Mitev’s penalty kick.

Floriana register fifth win of the season

Final score: Floriana 3-1 Balzan Youths

Floriana managed to surpass Balzan Youths with a 3-1 scorline at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

The Greens came from behind after Kris Bright gave the lead to Ivan Zammit’s side. Just one minute after, Captain Manolito Micaallef levelled for the Vilhenna team. On the hour veteran Ivan Woods scored from the penalty spot. Minutes from the end of the game Christian Caruana sealed the win for Michael Woods’s squad.

The Greens now have sixteen points from seven games and now meet arch rivals Valletta this Sunday for the match of the week. Balzan Youths stayed at the near bottom end of the table with just five points from seven games.
