Maltese international Gareth Sciberras will wear the Stripes jersey as from next week this site can reveal. The deal was signed earlier today between Marsaxlokk who owned the player and Birkirkara officials.

The Midfielder has been in talks with his President Robert Micallef for his transfer since last April. Sciberras’ first option was to join Hibernians since he was in regular contact with Mark Miller who tried to convince the player to join Hibs.

It was ultimately Birkirkara who offered Marsaxlokk the best deal which is believed to be around EUR65,000 payable to Marsaxlokk 50% in cash by the beginning of the Premier League 2011/12, and the rest in two installments over the next season.

The figure Birkirkara paid was EUR50,000 as per the player’s MFA parameters, plus an additional fee per season the player had left in his contract with his former club.

Close sources to Birkirkara’s committee revealed that as part of the deal, central defender Patrick Borg will move to Marsaxlokk under the guidance of Winston Muscat on loan for one season.

Sciberras will most probably be available for selection for the Stripes’ UEFA Europa League commitments next week.
