Exciting weekend ahead for Maltese Horse Racing

Over the coming weekend the Malta Racing Club will be having quite a number of events all happening between this Friday 6th May and Sunday 8th May both locally and abroad.  On the international seen 2 Maltese representatives will be wearing the Maltese colours in two different events, one held at the Anfa racetrack in Marocco, and the other at the famous Agnano racetrack in Naples Italy.  Both races are legs of the 2011 Meditteranean Horse Racing Union Championship.

Ramon Grima will be the Maltese jockey in Casablanca, a race that will be held this Friday 6th May at 2.00pm.  Ramon Grima is one of the best jockeys in Malta, having twice won the Mediterranean Derby, the most prestigious Flat Race in the Maltese horse racing calendar, on one of the crowd favourites ‘Just the Best’.  Charlo Debono will be the Maltese driver at Agnano, during the same race meeting as the popular Lotteria di Agnano race.  The trot race in Agnano is the 2nd leg of the Mediterranean Horse Racing Union Championship, which Malta is the 2010 holder and leader in 2011 after winning the 1st leg held in Malta on the 31st March.  For this race 7 drivers will be participating representing France, Italy, Malta, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia and Ukraine.  The race will start at 4.05pm on Sunday 8th May.

In Malta at the Marsa race track, local enthusiast will have s double meeting with an International Ladies Race being held at the Friday evening meeting, were Maltese, Swedish, Finish and Norwegian ladies drivers will be participating in this race.  The Friday meeting also host what looks like one of the best race’s of the season.  The start list includes 3 Tazza l-Kbira winners, James De L’Iton, In Vitro Du Bourg and Kakisis, plus Arnie Sensation and Joker de Choisel, winners of various other trophies in the last years.  The first race on Friday starts at 7.00pm, with the Sunday meeting, holding another Premier Class Race and 3 Gold Class races starting at 2.00pm.

Quite a busy horseracing week for horse racing in Malta, not just for the local horse racing enthusiasts, but for all the family to enjoy.
