Last Saturday, the final shooting competition in Air-Rifle & Air-Pistol was organized at the National Indoor Airgun Range in Bidnija. A sizeable crowd watched these interesting competitions where our shooters were trying their best to get their highest scores. These results will now be sent to the National Smallbore Rifle Association of England for classifying our shooters with those of various shooting clubs in the British Isles taking part in the Postal Eley / NSRA sponsored shooting competition. By the end of next month we will know who have made it to the second round of the competition which will be shot by next April.

It was with great pleasure to note that a record number of 12 shooters participated in this event and this shows that our sport is rapidly gaining in popularity.

In the air-pistol event 1st placed Eleanor Bezzina garnered the highest number of points (368 + 93.5 ) for a total of 461.5 to beat stiff competition from Ray Cacciattolo (360 + 93.3) obtaining a total of 453.3 points for 2nd place. Stephen Vassallo won a merited 3rd placing with a score of 441.2 points (350 + 91.2). Martin Grech  with 413.1 (329 + 84.9) points, Alfred Cini with (320 + 84.8) total 404.8 points, Josette Calleja Galea with 401.2 points (321 + 80.2) and Mario Mallia Milanes with 364.9 points(290 + 74.9), followed in 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th place respectively.

The Air-Rifle event was even more hotly contested. It saw the return of Lawrence Darmanin shooting his way to the top placing with a total score of 454.9 points (358 + 96.9). Only 4 points separated the next 3 shooters and the final shoot was to prove very decisive to ensure the final placings. Michael Xuereb managed to shoot one of his best finals and took 2nd place with a total score of 436.6 points (343 + 93.6) ahead of Romeo Zuber with 428.9 points (343 + 85.9). Alison Vella  with a total of 427.7 (341 + 86.7) points in 4th place and Annabel Borg in 5th place with (338 + 82.9) totalling  420.9 points.

After the competition, A to Z Electronics director – Mr Noel Sammut was given the honour to present the trophies to the winners after his company sponsored a Hannspree 32” TV Monitor to the club to be used as a scoreboard for the shooting competitions.
