Elaine Genovese-Tennis Ladies Top Six 2013 Champion

Elaine Genovese is the BOV Malta Tennis Ladies Top SIX 2013 Champion. Genovese  beat Katrina Sammut 6-3, 6-0 in the final held at the Marsa Sports Club.

14 year old Sammut, in her first major final, started out strong breaking Genovese’s serve in the first game. Genovese, 22, also broke Sammut’s first serve and utilized her superior strength and experience to overcome the youngster’s game. Although clearly the superior player, Genovese had a strong challenge on her hands with Sammut having several game and break points in the second set.

The BOV Malta Women’s Masters Tournament is a technical assessment of national players in preparation for the team’s upcoming Fed Cup and Small Nations Games commitments, and featuresMalta’s top female tennis players.

The tournament is played with two preliminary Round Robin groups of three players, with the winners of each group playing a semi-final versus the second placed of each group.

“The Federation has continued to work towards integrating younger players with its experienced players, through a training programme which has long-term national team objectives. Genovese who is now an established champion andMalta’s leading female tennis player is testimony to the potential success of this programme,” Dr Farrugia Sacco concluded.
