Early set-back boosts Spartans

Hamrun came from behind and managed to turn defeat into victory after suffering an early goal which turned to be a boost as they played very attractive football and emerged worthy winners. Following this game Hamrun are in fifth position on 9 points from 6 games while San Gwann are third from bottom having only 4 points also from 6 games.

 

The first action was created by San Gwann Nicholas Borg was fouled outside the area and Hamrun keeper Lydon Moore had to dive and save the ball to a corner from the free kick by Glen Pace and after the flag kick by Jake Bowman, AdamAgius missed the upright from inside the area.

 

In the first action by Hamrun they won a corner kick on the right flank which was well-taken by Daniel Debono which created havoc in San Gwann’s area but somehow the ball was cleared away to safety.

 

In San Gwann’s next attack in the 10th minute they opened the score when CainCutajar was fouled outside the  area and after the free kick by Leandro Lanzon, Bowman scored with a hard rising shot from inside the area, and in another action by San Gwann the ball was cleared to another corner from a flag kick by Bowman.

 

In Hamrun’s first action,Miguel Simiana was fouled outside the area and after Rhys Mifsud served Debono with a short pass from the free kick he missed the upright from outside the area.

 

 

Hamrun equalized in the 22nd minute when Debono released Jurgen Grech in the area after dribbling past an opponent and he scored with a low shot past SanGwann keeper Fabian Grixti.

 

At the other end minutes later Owen Micallef dribbled past two opponents and after entering the area he missed the upright by inches with his hard rising shot.

 

In the 25th minute Hamrun scored a second goal. Camrin Zammit released OwenAgius I on the right flank who in turn crossed the ball in the area to JeremyBusuttil who powered a header past Grixti, and four minutes before the break it became 3-1 for Hamrun as the same player scored with another header after a cross from the right flank by Owen Agius I.

 

San Gwann created more actions than Hamrun after the resumption but the Spartans rearguard and midfield were a very hard nut to crack as the San Gwannforwards found it very difficult to penetrate the Spartans area.

 

Clayton Mifsud was fouled outside the area and Hamrun keeper Lydon Moore saved the free kick shot by Bowman and Pace was fouled on the left flank and after the ball was partly cleared from the free kick shot by Bowman, Moore saved the rebound shot by Alessio Galea 

 

Galea was then fouled on the left flank and after the free kick by Bowman created havoc in Hamrun’s area the ball was cleared away with difficulty and Micallefdribbled past two opponents and after entering the area Moore turned his shot to a corner.

 

In another action by Hamrun Busuttil was fouled on the left flank and after Grixtipartly saved the free kick shot by Mifsud the ball was cleared away.

 

In the 55th minute Hamrun scored their fourth goal when Jurgen Grech servedBusuttil with a through ball outside the  area who entered the area after out-speeding two opponents and lobbed the ball into the net over the on-rushing Grixtiobtaining a personal hat-trick and his-side’s fourth goal.

 

Minutes later Micallef dribbled past two opponents and after entering the area Moore denied him with a diving save and at the other end, substitute Nathan Vellawas fouled outside the area and after Busuttil floated a perfect high ball in the area from the free kick Grixti had to dive and save a close-range shot by substitute Darren Borg and in the last action before the end substitute Larken Ferriggireleased Owen Agius I on the right flank who the n crossed to Grech in the area and he missed the bar by inches.
