Sta Venera   1       Luqa    0
An early first half goal decided this low key game which was shorn of goal-mouth actions and shots at goal were very scarce. Sta Venera are in joint third place with Mqabba on 16 points from 8 games while Luqa are still pointless from same number of games.
Sta Venera created the first two actions. Ryan Zahra served Darren Carabott in the area but Luqa keeper Brajdon Penza foiled him with a timely sortie and after Stefan Micallef was fouled outside the area the ball missed the upright from the free kick by Matthew Vella.
In the 12th minute Sta Venera opened the score as they won a corner kick on the right flank which was taken by Vella and after Penza partly fisted the ball in the area Nigel Refalo placed the ball in the roof of the net.
The Yellow/Blues resumed with their pressing and Penza saved the ball to a corner from a Vella free kick after Josef Eldin was fouled on the left edge of the area and later denied Eldin with a diving save after he was put through by Stefan Micallef.
In the only action by Luqa in the first period, Kersten Zammit served Luke Spiteri in the area but Saints keeper Saiki Omar foiled him with a timely sortie, and in the last action before the break, Vella served Zahra in the area but a Luqa defender cleared the ball to a corner.
The second period was a carbon copy of the first with very few actions worthy of note and luqa created only one.
After Eldin was fouled on the left fl;ank the ball missed the far post from vella’s free kick. Penza then served a header by Zahra after he was served with a cross by Vella from the left flank.
In Luqa’s only action,Terence Cassar was fouled just outside the area but Omar had no difficulty to save the ball from the free kick by Brian Cauchi.
Minutes before the end Penza brought the house down with a fine save when he tipped the ball over the bar from a point blank hard shot by Stefan Micallef.
