Double series win for Marsa C.C.

Last Saturday the Marsa C.C most probably played it’s last game against touring sides, with one more team still to confirm. The West Yorkshire, UK, Pontefract New College side will play the second game of the series and were looking to square the series after last weeks loss.

The Marsa team batted first in the twenty over game. John Grima was solid opening the batting and made twenty one runs. His opening partner Andy Naudi was on shaky grounds and was lucky to make a single after being dropped, only to be caught in the following over ending up with three runs. Tony Slater left his best innings for last, making a personal best for this year of sixteen runs  hitting the boundary twice along the way. The innings of the day came from the bat of Justin Brooke who made an attacking fifty five runs which included seven boundaries (which included a hat trick as well). Sarfraz Ali made eleven runs and Sid Anand three. The Marsa team totalled 128 runs (including extras) from their allotted overs. For the Pontefract bowlers, Matty Smith, Elliot Spears, Matty Green and Connor Fisher all took a wicket.

Elliot Spears (twenty three runs, two fours) and Matty Green (fourteen runs) opened the innings and gave a reasonable start to the run chase. Mark Smith and Danny Mills hardly troubled the scorer making three runs between them. Connor Fisher (twenty nine runs , two fours) and Andy Green (twenty five runs , three fours) gave it their all and had the Marsa team worried. It wasn’t until they were both out that the home side started breathing properly. Daniel Bailey,  Aaron Lunn and Joel Moore put on four runs between them and the visitors fell short by eleven runs after the twenty overs were bowled.

For Marsa it was fantastic to see junior Waleet Ahmed taking two wickets as did Justin Brooke , another junior Ali Hamsa took a wicket as did Sarfraz Ali. The Marsa team win the series two to nil.

Next Saturday a friendly game will be played. Saturday morning the Sunoco Cricket academy/nursery will be from 9:00 till 10:30am.
