Dione Galea draws with EBF European Champion Curtis

The MFCC in Ta’ Qali  on Friday night witnessed another high level of boxing event as Malta’s top three boxers Corito, Galea and Borg were all in action to fight for title Belts.
Although Billy Corito’s main and final bout of the night was supposed to be the highlight of the night, Dione Galea’s stole the show as the Cottonera based boxer drew on points after six rounds against EBF Champion and holder of the EBF Super Middleweight European Champion Jason Curtis.
Galea’s fight left the thousand people present breatless as the Maltese boxer seemed to be on level terms with Curtis in the first round but then gave some extra punches in the second, third and forth round. Eventually experienced Curtis fought back and produced some counter attacking in the final rounds. The final verdict by Referee Marius Schembri was a draw to the delight of Galea’s supporters, leaving Galea still with the chance to claim the European Super Middleweight category title in a possible re-match in November.
Billy wins again
As expected Billy Corito smashed his opponent once again in front of an enthusiastic crowd. Corito’s is still undefeated since he embarked on his personal project to climbs gradually the EBF ranking list. Corito’s technical Knock Out after the end of the first round to the expense of Eric “The Viking” Thompson now puts him in ranking list number 6.Malta’s “Hitman” started slow in the first second of the first round conceding some straight punches but he reacted in an impressive method pushing UK based Thompson to the ropes and leaving him nursing his injuries in the corner. It was Thompson himself who asked the referee to give the win to Billy seconds before the start of the second round. Corito is still the holder of the EBF Intercontinental Heavyweight Title Belt.
Tyrone Borg registered his seventh consecutive win since he started Pro boxing as on Friday night he defeated Cayan Hughes by a technical knock out in the second round. The Maltese “El Terribile” showed once again great compatibility inside the ring and gave people a show worth for their entrance ticket. Borg was defending his EBF Intercontinental Cruiser weight category title..
The event was the third one organised by the European Boxing Federation in collaboration with Maltese promoter Paul Borg who is also Corito’s Manager. All the event will be broadcast on Melita’s Malta Stars Channel in a week’s time. For more information info@sportinmalta.com.
