Karl Izzo gave the following statement:-

“Another excellent performance by the team especially in defence against a very strong Austrian team strengthened with the inclusion of 2 Hungarian and 1 Croatian players since our defeat on penalties in the 8 Nations in April, during which competition we were competing with a stronger and more experienced National team! I am very satisfied with the overall performance of the boys which definitely exceeded my expectations – great team spirit and tactical behaviour by the team! Last but not least a very big thank you to the President of ASA, Joe Caruana Curran and the ASA Executive for managing to secure participation in this very good level tournament. To my assistant Anthony Farrugia for his excellent collaboration and work and to our team physio Andrew Cole for the sterling work done with the boys in the past week where we played no less than 5 matches in 6 days. To the clubs that accepted to send their players, and last but not least to all the 13 players led by captain Edward Aquilina for accepting to travel and take active part in this FINA DEVELOPMENT TROPHY in Iran and representing Malta and performing above expectations, obtaining some excellent results against strong opposition.”
