Birkirkara   2        Floriana      1
The youngsters from Birkirkara were the better outfit in this game as they were very fast on the ball and also precise in their passing and fully deserved the verdict. Floriana were very slow in their approaches and also lacked co-ordination especially in midfield. Following this game floriana are in 6th position on 10 points from 8 games while Birkirkara are in 7th place on 9 points also from 8 games.
After only four minutes Birkirkara were already in the driving seat as Russell Gatt De Raffaele dribbled past an opponent on the right flank and served Kurt Zammit with a cross and he scored with a hard grounder from the edge of the area past a helpless Floriana keeper Rhys Sullivan.
After this early set-back, the reaction by Floriana was very immediate as they mounted four actions in a row. Conor Borg served glenn Tabone on the right flank and Stripes keeper Dylan Galea neutralised the ball from his cross. Sean Cipriott served Tabone on the right flank and a defender cleared the ball to a corner from his cross, the same player, minutes later, floated a high ball in the area from a free kick and Galea denied Darrell Baldacchino with a diving save and he did likewise minutes later on a shot by Juan Corbolan after a Conor Borg square pass.
The last two actions before the break were both created by Birkirkara during which they doubled the score. Zammit served Gatt De Raffaele with a square pass but he missed the upright from outside the area, and just before the half time whistle the score became 2-0 in an identical move as the opening goal.
There were only six actions worthy of note after the restart and most of them came from Floriana as they tried very hard to get back in the game. Conor Borg served Tabone with a through ball in the area but he headed over the Stripes’ bar. Jeremy fenech was then fouled outside the area and from the free kick by Matthew Bajada the ball was deflected to a corner. Substitute Mauro sultana was then fouled outside the area, Bajada sereved Luke Micallef with a short pass and Galea saved his effort from outside the area.
Floriana pulled one back in the 55th minute when Bajada served Fenech with a through ball in the area and after he dribbled past the onrushing keeper he placed the ball in an empty net.
In the 58th minute Birkirkara were denied by the woodwork when the ball was partly cleared from a corner kick taken by Gatt De Raffaele and from the rebound shot by Zammit it thumped the base of the far post with sullivan completely beaten and the ball was somehow cleared to safety.
