The Rabat yougsters were the better outfit in this game as they showed the better ideas and created more actions than Naxxar. Young Referee Paul Toledo made his debut with the whistle, I wish him good luck for the future.
The first action came from Rabat as Christian Farrugia released Leone Ellul on the left edge of the area and he drove slightly over the bar.
Rabat forged ahead in the 7th minute when Nicolae Chetcuti served Alejandro Brincat with a through ball in the area and he scored with a low shot past Naxxar keeper Gianluca Vella.
Encouraged by such an early lead Rabat resumed with their pressing and mounted two further actions. A one-two between Brincat and Chetcuti finished with the latter missing the upright by inches from inside the area and after Mark Asciak was fouled outside the area the ball was cleared away from the free ick by the same palyer.
In a Naxxar reaction they mounted two actions. Kieran Farrugia served Jan Greach with a through ball outside the area and Luke Mifsud foiled him from further progression with a perfect timely tackle and Mark Fenech released Paul Ellul in the area and Rabat keeper Kieran Brincau foiled with a timely sortie as he dived at his feet and smothered the ball.
Chetcuti then pounced on a faulty clearance and Abela saved his shot from outside the area.
Rabat doubled their lead in the 29th minute when Christopher Muscat was fouled outside the area and Gianluca Bugeja scored with a rising shot in the top right hand corner of the net.
Just before the half time whistle Naxxar were denied by the wood work when Ryan Micallef was fouled outside the area and from the free kick by Ryan Falzon the ball hit the base of the upright with Brincau beaten and the ball was cleared away to safety.
The first action after the restart was created by Rabat when Lincoln Micallef was fouled outside the area and after Bugeja floated a perfect high ball in the area from the free kick the ball was cleared away with difficulty, while at the other end, Paul Ellul released Jan Gerada in the area and Brincau foiled him with a timely sortie.
In another action by Rabat Asciak served Chetcuti with a square pass outside the area and after Abela partly saved his shot a defender manged to clear the danger.
Naxxar then created two actions. Ellul was fouled outside the area and Falzaon drove slightly over the bar from the free kick and Brincau saved a free kick shot by Fenech after Ellul was fouled on the left flank.
Asciak was then fouled outside the area and Abela saved the free kick shot by the same player. Asiak was again fouled outside the area and was injured in the action and had to stretchered off and rushed to hospital, from these columns I wish him a speedy recovery, seconds before the free kick was taken Naxxar player Kieran Farrugia was shown the red card for striking an opponent in an off-the-ball incident. From the resultant free kick Farrugia missed the upright by inches.
The last two actions before the end were both created by Naxxar. Ellul was fouled outside the area and Brincau had to dive and save the free kick shot by Fenech and Miguel Tanti was fouled on the left edge of the area and again Brincau had to dive and save the free kick shot by Fenech.
