Debutant Ruggiero sinks Magpies, Mosta winning run continues

Two late goals by Italian debutant Luigi Ruggiero gave Sliema Wanderers an important 2-0 win against resilient Rabat Ajax.

The Magpies managed to control the opponents but the dismissal of former Marsaxlokk defender Clive Brincat on the 78th minute ruined the day for Silvio Vella’s side.

Ruggiero, who started the game on the substituted bench was introduced in the second half and provided the much needed goals for Alfonso Greco side.

Sliema Wanderers now have ten points from 6 games as Rabat Ajax stayed bottom with just 1 point from 6 games.

Rabat Ajax was again without influence striker Ryan Micallef, Joseph Caruana and the suspended Patrick Borg, Sliema Wanderers also lacked Mark Scerri and Beppe Muscat.

The match came in life on the 78thminute as Clive Brincat was shown the second yellow card and therefore the Wanderers put an extra gear to manage to beaten Jonathan Azzopardi twice in the last 6 minutes by Luigi Ruggiero.

360 minutes has gone now since Rabat Ajax last time find the net. The last goal was scored Melita in the 2-2 draw at Match Day 2

Mosta winning run continues

Obinna Obiefule scored twice and Mosta outplayed Floriana in today’s second match at the National Stadium. Youngster Fernandino Apap scored the other Mosta goal.

Nigerian Akanji Waisu scored a consolation goal for the Greens. Firas Abouless and Kane Farrugia, who currently is on loan from Mosta was dismissed as both clubs finish with ten men.

Mosta now moved third along with Birkirkara with12 points from 6 games as Floriana stayed in the middle with 8 points.
