David Millar at this year's Giro d'Italia

The Maltese born scottish cyclist Dave Millar has informed the MOC that he has changed his mind at the last minute and will not turn up for the Lie Games 2011 in the cycling time trial event.

Mark Cutajar the Chief de Mission of team Malta said to local reporters in Vaduz that the cyclist who today ended his venture in the Giro D’Italia, informed the MOC about this abrupt decision.

This is surely a blow for the Maltese contingent as he was a tipped for a potential gold medal in his event.

Cutajar said that he has text messages from Millar himself dated 20th May confirming that Millar was coming to Liechtenstein to represent Malta.

Glad he’s not going – there are many deserving MALTESE cyclists who have worked really hard and who deserve to be there instead of him… these Games shouldn’t be about political workings to get medals – they should be an opportunity for true members of European small countries to participate and show what they’re made of!!
