Daniel Bajada signs for Italian Serie B1 team

Following four trials with Serie B teams in Italy, national table tennis champion Daniel Bajada has opted to join Serie B1 team ASD Fioccola, situated in Castellana Grotte close to Bari.

Addressing a the media on Wednesday afternoon, Malta Table Tennis Association President, Joe Borg Cardona expressed his satisfaction at such a deal and thanked Bajada’s previous school, Stella Maris College, for the massive contribution they put in to ensure such a promising one year deal.

Stella Maris College Physical Education teacher, Kevin Azzopardi said that this venture was in line with the college’s policy to achieve the highest standards, also when being away from the traditional classroom environment. Azzopardi explained that Bajada will be traveling to Italy only for the matches with the first being next Saturday against ASD Tennistavolo Norbello.

Bajada will be involved in fourteen matches that will be played on home and away basis till May. The top team will automatically win promotion to Serie A2 while the bottom two teams will be relegated to Serie B2.

ASD Fioccola President, Nino Bianco stated his club was delighted to sign their first ever player from abroad and explained that the club’s fans have shown great interest following Bajada’s decision to sign for the club.

Finally, Kevin Attard, Director of Customs and Freight Agency Ltd., presented the first sponsorship to Bajada on behalf of Passalacqua Bari.
