Daikin Qormi picked up where they left off last season by the taking the Super Cup, the hockey seasons first honour. The reigning Champions and KO Winners emphatically saw off the challenge of perennial rivals Sliema Hotsticks by four goals to nil. The difference between the sides was simple enough. Qormi took their chances while Sliema Hotsticks did not.

The first quarter started quietly as both sides got the rustiness out of their system following the summer break. The game sprang into life in the final five minutes of the quarter as Qormi goalkeeper effected a fine double save to thwart Sliema. Daikin Qormi took the ball up the other end and from the rebound off a short corner move Luke Bajada put them into the lead.

The second quarter went by with little of note although once again Mifsud denied Sliema a goal.  The third quarter was a lively affair and started with Qormi’s Shaun Dimech and Luke Bajada failing to beat Ludwig Cole in the Sliema goal after a mix up in the Sliema defence. It was then Sliema’s turn to miss a favourable situation and once again, they were made to pay when Shaun Dimech fired in Qormi’s second on 35M. Before the end of the quarter, the same Dimech missed a good chance for Qormi.

The fourth quarter saw little change with Sliema, commendably, doing their best to get on the score sheet but unable to find the final touch. Qormi on their part were finding plenty of space in attack and in the space of two minutes completed the score with goals from Keith Bajada (50M) and Zack de Giovanni (52M). Nathan Galea and Shawn Mifsud umpired the game.

After the match, Sandro Micallef, President of the Malta Sports Journalists Association (sponsors of the Super Cup) presented the trophy to the winners.

Before the game, Gordon Mifsud, HAM President presented Sliema Hs player Christ Agius with the award for HAM Player of the Year for season 2018-2019.
