Thursday, February 3, 2011, 13:58

The 2011 waterpolo season starts next Saturday 5 February with three games of the U15 youth waterpolo BOV competition.  This is the first time that an official league is being organised by the ASA in the winter months.  In all six teams will be participating namely, Exiles, Marsascala, Neptunes, San Giljan, Sirens and Sliema.  There will be one round and all matches will be played at the National Pool at Tal-Qroqq.  Matches will commence at 15.00 with the fixtures as follows:

15.00    Exiles vs Sirens

16.00    Marsascala vs Neptunes

17.00    San Giljan vs Sliema

Commenting on the event, newly appointed ASA President, Joe Caruana Curren stated that he had  been favourably impressed with the organisation and dedication of all the clubs involved especially regarding youth waterpolo : “It is very clear that there is a collective drive to enhance the popularity and improve the level of local waterpolo.  Several youths attend training sessions up to four times a week during the winter months so it is very important that competitions are organised throughout the year.  Hopefully this will be an annual event.”  Besides this national competition waterpolo festivals will continue to be organised between February and May for other age groups, before the usual National summer competitions.
