Colour, Creativity and Sports hit the streets of Għaxaq at the Agones SFC Carnival Fun Run

A variety of costumes and colour added to the fun of the second edition of the Carnival Fun Run organized by Agones SFC in collaboration with the Ghaxaq Local Council. Held on Sunday 23rd February, the event consisted of a 5km fun run, a 2.5km fun run / walk and a 1km run for children.

They came dressed up as super heroes, cowboys, ballerinas, in coloured wigs.  Families dressed up in the same theme, others dressed as cavemen and of course the much talked about corona virus made its presence felt with a number of participants using the topic as a theme for their costume.  If there was one thing in common though, it was the smiles and laughter from the three hundred strong crowd, of all ages and abilities, that thronged the narrow streets of Għaxaq centre for a morning of fun and healthy activity.

The event kicked off with a 5km fun run, followed by the shorter distances. Despite it being a fun run, one could still see an element of competition from those taking part, all doing their best to reach the finish line in the shortest time possible.

“We are extremely satisfied with the outcome of this event. As a sports club that hosts a variety of races throughout the year, we encourage competition and racing spirit, however today was all about nurturing the colourful and fun spirit of Carnival – whilst also supporting a number of charities through this initiative” explained Warren Muscat, President, Agones SFC. “We are grateful for the support that Għaxaq Local Council and the local community have given us.”

Prizes were given for the  Most Original outfit, Best Family Costume, Eco-Friendly Costume, Couple’s Costume and Traditional Themed Costume and were presented by Għaxaq Mayor Darren  Abela, who confirmed his Local Council’s increased support towards the third edition of this event in 2021.

Agones SFC announced that part of the proceeds will be donated to The Inspire Foundation – the Foundation for Inclusion and the Alive Charity Foundation, which raises funds for Cancer Research and Awareness.
