Chircop suffers defeat in Scotland over the weekend

Chircop was defeated by Scottish boxer, Paul Brannan, after 6 rounds, to become the new European Boxing Federation Bantamweight (55.5KG) Champion. Brannan won on all of three judges’ scorecards: 56-57, 59- 57 and 60-56 out of a possible 60 points. As a result, the title was awarded to the Scotsman.

Chircop, who has reigned as Champion since 2012 was rocked late in the second round by two near perfect hooks to the side of the head, the young Maltese boxer was shaky for the following 3 rounds and never had enough time to recover. Chircop commented at the post fight conference that he didn’t really step up the pace at the end of the fight. When asked, Chircop added that he would return in 2016 to challenge for the same title.
