Steve Chetcuti of Birkirkara St. Joseph and Carmen Hili of St. Patrick’s A.C. won their respective categories in the second race of the Festina The Cyclist Birkirkara St. Joseph 5K Road Running Series 2013. With this victory Chetcuti managed to take the lead in the overall classification, while Hili made up for her disappointing performance in the first race although she is still trailing her team-mate Angele Sammut in the series table.

Chetcuti was chased all the way by team-mate Keith Galea, with Mellieha’s Charles Cilia in their wake. The race leader widened the gap in the final 1 kilometre to finish in 16 minutes, 9 seconds. Galea finished in 16 minutes, 17 seconds, a marginal two seconds ahead of Cilia. Angele Sammut could not match her performance of the first race, handing Hili an easy victory in a time of 18 minutes, 48 seconds. Sammut’s time of 19 minutes, 13 seconds was enough to see her home in second place, and secure an 11-second lead in the table.

Third place finished Michelle Vella Wood (Birkirkara St. Joseph) in 19 minutes, 23 seconds. This series of three races is organised under the auspices of the Malta Amateur Athletic Association and sponsored by Festina and The Cyclist of San Gwann. Birkirkara St.Joseph Sports Club would like to thank Race Two co-sponsors The Malta International Challenge Marathon, Nestle’ Malta Ltd., Ron Hill and Raysun.
