Chairman’s team maintains winning streak

On Saturday The Captains team took on the Chairman’s team in a twenty over game. The captains team looking for their first win. Ronnie Sacco winning the toss, elected to bat first. Dave Borg and Bikram Arora opened the innings.

They were going steadily at six runs an over when Borg tried to up the tempo and danced down the pitch to hit the ball, missed and was stumped, he made seven runs. Arora went on to equal top score with twenty one runs. He scored a six and a four in his innings. Sam Aquilina was the other top scorer; he managed to hit three fours. Ronnie Sacco did not trouble the scorers being bowled for one run. Derek Ali made a quick twenty runs from seventeen balls before being caught. Robert Krishna (seven ruins), Tony Slater (eight runs) John Rusher (two runs), Adam Krishna (one run) and Nadia Gosney were the other batters who contributed. The Captains side totalled 110 runs when you add the extras. For the Chairman’s team Tony Azzopardi was the main wicket taker with three, while Kevin Krishna and Joy Ghoseroy took two wickets each and Sarfraz Ali took one wicket.

Chris Naudi and Michael Grima opened the innings for the Chairman’s team and had put on a partnership of forty runs before Grima was bowled. Grima made fifteen runs which was a good effort considering he had not played since 2003. Naudi went on to top score with twenty eight runs which included two fours. Richard Rogers managed to hold an end up before being caught for one run. John Grima (thirteen runs),Javed Shah(ten runs), Joy Ghoseroy (fourteen runs) and Darren Grech (eight runs) all managed to get starts but failed to go on to make big scores.

The game situation came to the last over where the Chairman’s team needed eleven runs to win. First ball went for one run, second ball a wide, third ball no score, fourth ball two runs, fifth ball wide, sixth ball wicket (Grech), seventh ball wicket (Slater), eighth ball wide. This left the Chairman’s team needing three runs to tie and four runs to win. The bowler bowled a wide and the batsmen ran three runs giving the Chairman’s team the victory they needed taking the series to a three nil lead. For the Captains team Ronnie Sacco and Robert Krishna were the main wicket takers with three each and Bikram Arora took one.
