Cash on delivery for Tyrone Farrugia

Floriana FC supporters must have been happily surprised when they flocked to the Victor Tedesco Stadium yesterday afternoon to watch their team’s friendly match against Hamrun. On the pitch they saw the ex-Msida player Tyrone Farrugia playing for their team with the jersey number 22, the same number that he had on his former club’s shirt.

Farrugia, as it has been exclusively reported in this site, was in talks with the Greens and an agreement was reached late yesterday afternoon after the young determined new Floriana President Said opted to buy the player personally from Msida St. Joseph. It was partly a cash on delivery deal, as this site can confirm that Johann Said kept his promise made to the player’s father (Msida SJ President) and cashed out some EUR35,000 as part of an initial payment for the transfer of one of the top local defenders.

Farrugia, who last year was still part of the Malta U/21 side, was valued at around EUR55,000 in accordance with the MFA parameters. With this permanent transfer of Farrugia, Msida SJ can deposit their fresh cash at the MFA headquarters and get rid of their lengthy prohibition. They can now start a fresh page and prepare for their First Division campaign after last season they were relegated from the Premier league together with Dingli.

In the meantime Msida SJ did not receive the green light to confirm Jesmond Abela as Vice President of their Club as the MFA council earlier this week scrutinized the Clubs’ list of new committee members. Another official who has been rejected from occupying a high role within a Club is Andrew Sullivan who was meant to be the new President of Ghargur FC.

Transfer market news update:

Floriana only need to agree a personal financial package with 19 year old Sheldon Grech of Pieta. The two Clubs have agreed the transfer fee which also involves money going directly towards a cash-strapped Pieta Hotspurs Club.

Omar Borg yesterday made his seasonal debut in the Hamrun goal as the goalkeeper came in as a substitute for Ivan Casha just after 40 minutes of play  in a friendly game vs Floriana (0-0). Borg is yet to sign  an official contract with the Spartans.

Clayton Cassar, who last season played for Zejtun Corinthains, is on trial with Floriana. Cassar who is a defender also played for San Gwann before joining Zejtun last season.

Zoran Levniaz and George Mallia are two midfielders who are currently without a club. The former spent the last three weeks in Israel and Russia for some trials but is expected back to Malta next week and is set to commence training with Hibernians who had approached the player way back in May. Mallia on the other hand is still undecided about his future after his contract with the Stripes came to an end last season.
