Camilleri Burlo’ dominates day four of 2015 RMYC Match Racing Winter Series

Day four of the 2015 RMYC Match Racing Winter Series got underway last Saturday with ominous clouds and no wind, causing an hour’s delay to the start of the race.

Originally scheduled for 09:30hrs, it was only an hour later that the wind picked up slightly. Light and shifty northerly winds of just over five knots made for very tricky conditions. Eventually the sun came out and the wind increased to a steady north westerly of about ten knots.

The day’s racing was dominated by Kurt Camilleri Burlo’s team, which included Edward Micallef (pit), Daniel Fenech (Bowman) and Johan Lemche (main). Camilleri Burlo’s team won all but one of the six races for the day and going up to fourth place in the overall classification.

“Last Saturday was by far the best performance we had so far over this Series. This was mainly due to the positive changes we made to the team. The conditions were very difficult with frequent wind shifts and sudden drops in wind strength. Two sudden drops in wind strength at the wrong time cost us the second race of the day,” commented skipper Camilleri Burlo’ “Racing was very close with several changes in position making it very exciting. Taking the right tactical decisions accompanied by good crew work paid off. Considering we faced one of the highest ranking teams in the event I am very happy with our performance and we are now looking at what we need to improve upon to improve our position in the event”.

It was a disappointing day for David Anastasi who was lying in second place on the overall and was hoping to overtake Condachi on points. Although the overall positons remain the same now, Condachi has a better lead and both Matthew Fleri Soler and Camilleri Burlo’ have narrowed the gap.

The next race day for the 2015 RMYC Match Racing Winter Series is scheduled for Thursday 19th March, a public holiday, where the top three teams will come head to head.
