C2 Lakes Indoor Rowing Challenge Results

Indoor rowing in Malta is becoming increasingly more popular and 4 Maltese rowers qualified to represent Malta in the world games to take place in Poland this July. These local Rowers tested themselves by competing at Concept2 Lakes Indoor rowing challenge over the weekend at the Marsa Sports Club.

There were open 2000 meters categories for heavy and lightweights as well as 1000 meters age group categories from 30 plus to over 60.

There were foreign entries from a number of countries.

The winners of the open Men’s 2000 meter category was Daniel Lake with a 6.25.1 time followed by Juan Farrugia with a 6.34.3 and Yan Tanti with 6.39.6.

Jessica Borg Ghio won the Women’s open 2k with a time of 7.42.0 with Romina Bugeja coming 2nd in 7.55.7 and Ingrid Mercieca third with 8.mins 4.2 secs.

Mary Spirio of the USA pipped Michelle Vella-Wood in the Women’s Lightweight open and Glen Zammit edged out Antoine Scibberas in the men’s lightweight.

Men’s open 500 meter winner was Juan Farrugia and Jessica Borg Ghio completed a double by winning the Women’s open 500.

The event was concluded by a very energetic and competitive team relay comprising of 2 men and 2 women in each team which was won by the FreeMyMe Team.
