Bumper Entry for inaugural BOV Platinum Cup this weekend

The first ever BOV Platinum Cup Tournament is being held by the MTBA at the Eden SuperBowl this weekend, and the exciting new event has attracted an impressive total of almost 50 registrations, a number that has not been seen in a local tenpin bowling event for many a season.

While a cash prize fund of close to €2000 has helped in creating such interest, the BOV Platinum Cup will also be played with a handicap system, making it even more attractive to bowlers of all skill levels, enabling them all to compete on a more level playing field. In fact the majority of the field is made up of, not of the MTBA’s ‘elite’ athletes, but of bowlers who currently form part of the ‘intermediate’ and also the ever growing youth and junior national squads.

The BOV Platinum Cup comprises two separate male and female divisions, with all entrants competing in a twelve-game qualifying round on Friday and Saturday. The top six qualifiers from each category will then go through to the second round on Sunday morning, and this will be a ‘round-robin’, comprising five single game face-offs, adopting a system of extra bonus points for high games and match wins or draws. The final stage will then be competed between the top three qualifiers in each division, in a stepladder final.

Play commences at 0900 on Friday morning, with two consecutive squads having been formed to cope with the high demand. Saturday’s play starts at 1200 noon, with the final stages getting underway at 0930 on Sunday morning.

The first ever BOV Platinum Cup has been made possible thanks to the backing of Bank of Valletta.

Entrance to the Eden SuperBowl is free of charge for anyone who would like join in as a spectator, and show their support.
