Briffa: I'm not leaving Valletta

Roderick Briffa has not only been one of the best, but also one of the consistent players for Valletta over the past five years. Therefore, it was a surprise to see him linked with a loan move to Qormi after he agreed a new three year deal with Valletta.

In the last few days, there were suggestions on social media that the former Birkirkara player was close to a loan move.

It certainly did not make sense to hear Valletta thinking about selling the best player at the club. It only seemed like a transfer rumor that started on social media like Face book and online sites.

Briffa has now confirmed that the rumors linking him with a loan move were false.

“I don’t know where that came from. The last time I spoke with the club they told me I was a very important player for them and transmitted confidence in me.” – Briffa

According to the 32-year-old, he is looking forward to work again with coach Mark Miller.

Much of Briffa’s success in the Valletta squad came from the midfield position. One can expect Miller to utilise him in the middle of the park, which has always been his preferred position.

Will Briffa have the same influence on the team in this new formation? Only time can tell.

Either way, Briffa will probably remain as one of the best signings made during the Sciriha`s era.
