Qormi's Camilo Sanvezzo

Prior to their biggest game in their club history both Tarxien and Qormi are all geared up for what promises to be a heated encounter when on Tuesday evening (kick off 7.30pm) they face each other in the 2009/10 U*Bet FA Trophy semifinal.

Earlier this week I has the opportunity to meet two of the best Brazilians playing in Malta with each respective club namely, Everton Pereira of Tarxien and Camillo Sanvezzo da Silva of Qormi.

First I caught up with Everton Pereira, the Tarxien defender who only missed one game this season through suspension and asked him a couple of questions :

What are your thoughts in general about Maltese football as this season is coming to a close?

I have played in many countries in Europe and I have to admit that the level here is acceptable. In my career I have won the Lithuania footballer of the year as I played in this country as well, so when I compare Maltese football with Lithuanian football I come to the conclusion that the level here is much better than in Lithuania. Here there is a lot of talent, I like Trevor Cilia and Ryan Fenech a lot as they are very technical players. With regards to top player Michael Mifsud, I sincerely don’t know how he ended up here in Malta again, he is a truly top quality player. I like the pace of his game.

How is the team preparing for Tuesday’s game?

We had a very good season with some good wins, playing good football. We even finished the league above the club’s arch rivals Hiberians, but Tuesday’s game will be a totally different game. It will be the biggest game of the season for us. We are just one more game from making additional history for our club.  I am confident that we can win against Qormi. If we’re tactically disciplined as instructed by our coach then we can do it. We want to win this Trophy for our President Anthony Cassar as he and the fans deserve a title.

Later on I met also Camillo Sanvezzo da Silva the BOV Premier League 2009/10 top scorer with 24 goals and asked a couple of questions to the Brazilian ahead of the semi final game against Tarxien Rainbows.

How is the team preparing for Tarxien Game?

It’s a difficult game for us as during the season we have lost twice against them. Two weeks ago we had some management changes with the departure of Zerafa, but we are confident that we can make it to the final even though we shall be missing Effiong a lot as he is suspended. We had a long and tiring season and we want to finish the 2009/10 season on Sunday in the final with a bang.

Camillo, many Qormi fans want to have some indications about your future, will you stay at Qormi ?

I don’t know as yet. I had a great season and scored many goals so as you might imagine there are some local and foreign clubs that are interested in my signature. I am happy here in Malta and might be the case that I stay here for another year.

If you stay in Malta will it be Qormi or will you follow the footsteps of Jesmond Zerafa?

I can’t follow Jesmond at the moment because I end up without a club! I hope that when time comes for a decision I will make the right one.
