The Bank of Valletta Bowling National Junior Championships were just held over the last 2 weekends, with the highlight being undoubtedly the hotly contested under 23 male category.

The top 6 after the qualifiers were Nicholas Muscat, Matthew Magro (just 1 pin behind!), Edward Xuereb, Dylan Santillo, Dwayne Zahra and Kurt Attard.  After a very exciting round robin, the top 3 managed to keep their places, with Xuereb overcoming Magro to face Muscat. First game was won by Xuereb, 267-202, to force a decider. This went to the last shot, with Xuereb hitting 8 in the very last shot to draw the game, at 235-235. This forced a roll off for the very first time in these championships, with Muscat finally emerging a deserving winner hammering 3 strikes when it mattered, averaging a record 207 in the process.

Sara Xuereb was pretty much in a class of her own in the under 23 female category, defeating her sister Raquel in the final, thus claiming this title for an incredible 7 years in a row.

The Boys Under 16 championships were won comfortably by 14-year-old Muscat, ahead of Edward Xuereb and Dwayne Zahra.  Muscat is the first and only male bowler to have won both Under 23 and Under 16 at the same time.

In the Girls Under 16 category, Ruslana Grima repeated her 2018 title win to finish ahead of Kathryn Fenech and Mia Bugeja.

In the Under 12, Kayden Lagana and Karlise Bartolo repeated their 2018 successes. Lagana finished ahead of Nicolai Mallia and Kieran Seguna, with Bartolo finishing ahead of Celianne Micallef and Bugeja.

Ernest Agius, Chief Officer at Bank of Valletta and Paul Baldacchino, President of the Malta Tenpin Bowling Association presented the trophies to the newly crowned champions. Bank of Valletta’s support to the MTBA forms part of the Bank’s commitment towards the Community in which it operates.
