BOV Basketball Players of the Month – October 2016

Gżira Athleta have consolidated their position as a force in Maltese Basketball, winning the St James Basketball Shields in all senior divisions. Josiah Whitehead won the award for the BOV Men’s First Division, Christina Grima won the Women’s award and Kwame Thompson won the award for the BOV Men’s 2nd Division award.

Whitehead was the top scorer in the BOV Men’s 1st Division with 103 points from 4 games (25.75 ppg) averaging 62% from the field with 40 from 65 attempts. Josiah players a total of 152.40 minutes in 4 matches averaging 38.10 minutes per game.

Christina Grima was the top female 3 point scorer with 11 baskets from 27 attempts (41%) during the month of October. She also had 55% from the field (23 from 42) for 20.75 ppg, 4.5 steals and 4 assists per game averaging 36.45 minutes each match played (36.45 mins per game). This is Christina’s 4th individual award in her career.

Kwame Thompson scored 131 points in 4 matches (32.75 ppg) with 69% from the free throw line (22/32) and 62% from the field (50/81). His aggressive attacking style saw him draw 5.52 fouls per game (21 fouls in 4 matches) while playing an average of 36.11 per game (144.46 min in 4 matches)

Peter Perotti, Chief Officer at Bank of Valletta presented a commemorative plaque to the winners in the presence of Paul Sultana, President of the Malta Basketball Association. Bank of Valletta is a major supporter of sporting initiatives in Malta and can trace its relationship with the Malta Basketball Association back to the 1970s.
