Men’s 1st Division – Michael Naudi (Gzira Athleta)

Men’s 2nd Division – Ivan Mitrovic (Starlites)

Michael Naudi (Gzira Athleta), Ivan Mitrovic (Starlites) and Steffi De Martino (Caffe Moak Luxol) won the BOV Basketball Player of the Month awards for January 2016 in their respective category.

Gzira Athleta veteran Michael Naudi seems to shrug off the passage of time and produce a level of play that helped Athleta get their first victory over Virtus this season, in the final of the BOV Basketball Knockout. Naudi averaged 64% from the field (28 from 44) and 75% from the free throw line (24 from 32). Michael’s aggressive attacking style also gave him the highest number of fouls suffered in January with 27 fouls suffered in 3 matches (average 9 per game). Michael has now won this award 15 times throughout his career with Athleta, the first one coming in December 1998.

Starlites’ Ivan Mitrovic is having a dream season. January saw Starlites win the BOV Men’s 2nd Division Knockout where Mitrovic was voted Most Valuable Player of the Final. After winning the same award in December, he produced some enviable statistics. He scored the highest number of points in his division 98 points in three matches (32.67ppg), had the highest percentage from the free throw line with 83% (29 from 35) and also suffered the highest number of fouls (8.67per game – 26 fouls in three games). Mitrovic supplemented this with 56% from the field (18 from 32) and 37% from the distance (11 from 30)

Steffi de Martino (Caffe Moak Luxol) won the award for the Women’s league. With 75% from the free throw line (9/12) and 49% from the field (43 from 87), Steffi was the top scorer in the women’s division with 110 points from 5 matches (22ppg) and has now won the Female Player of the Month award five times.
