To mark the start of Sheffield United’s forthcoming pre-season tour of Malta (12 -17 July, 2010), Blades manager Kevin Blackwell will be invited to have his name officially etched in the island’s history.

The prestigious occasion will see Blackwell place his handprint in cement at St Julian’s Bay Street shopping mall, which is Malta’s very own Hollywood Boulevard-style walk of fame. The United manager will join a list of national and international personalities that have left their prints in the Mediterranean celebrity street.

Kevin Blackwell said: “To be asked to leave a lasting mark in Malta is a great honour. I think this a reflection of the special bond that has grown between Sheffield United and the island. The team and no doubt many of our fans will be looking forward to returning to Malta, where we always appreciate the warm hospitality that is widely associated with this Mediterranean haven.”

During the tour, Kevin Blackwell will be supporting a number of activities that will enable Blades fans and the people of Malta to get closer access to the team, including a Q&A fans forum, a beach BBQ attended by the players and a training session open to the public.

The supporter activities will build towards the triangular tournament, involving United and two leading Maltese Premier League sides. The 45 minute round-robin games will be hosted at the ground of Hibernians on Friday 16 July
