Birzebbuga WM    1           Vittoriosa S   0
The south sea-siders consolidated top spot after this match and they were the better outfit by creating more occasions than Vittoriosa. They lead the standings on 19 popints from 8 games while Vittoriosa are third from bottom having only 6 points from 7 games. The Cottonera rearguard played the off-side game to perfection and the Birzebbuga forwards were caught in the trap not less than 18 times. The game’s hero was Vittoriosa keeper Jean C. Faenza who denied the opposing forwards on many occasions with very good saves.
Vittoriosa created the first action as Kurt Ellul served Cesco Tanti in the area but birzebbuga keeper Isaac Rapa foiled him with a timely sortie.
In a Birzebbuga reaction minutes later, Justin Farrugia served Lee Schembri with a through ball and he missed the bar by inches from outside the area.
In another Vittoriosa attack, Jake Mizzi served Tanti with a cross in the area and a defender cleared the ball to a corner, at the other end minutes later, Clayton Frendo served Peter Abdilla with a though ball and keeper Jean C Faenza had to come out of his charge and kick the ball upfield, from the same action, Lucas Grima served Mizzi on the right flank and after entering the area the ball missed the near post from his shot.
Birzebbuga forged ahead in the 32nd minute when Aaron Dalli served Frendo in the area and as Faenza came out of his charge he scored with a lobbed ball.
Between the 33rd and 38th minutes Birzebbuga mounted three further actions. Frendo drove over the bar from a free kick after Schembri was fouled outside the area, Faenza denied Dalli with a diving save after he was put through by Daniel Zammit and  after a flag kick by Dalli, the ball hit the bar from a header by Abdilla with Faenza beaten.
There were only six actions worthy of note after the restart and all but one were created by Birzebbuga.
Abdilla served Schembri with a square pass outside the area and Faenza saved the latter’s shot. Dalli served Schembri in the area with a through ball and Faenza came out of his charge to kick the ball upfield, and later he neutralised the ball from a cross by Schembri after a Dalli through ball on the left flank.
Faenza came to his side’s rescue once again in the 54th minute when he turned the ball to a corner with a fine diving save on a close-range shot by Frendo after a Dalli cross from the right flank.
In Vittoriosa’s only attack, Lucas Grima served Luca Callus Randich on the left flank and Rapa saved his shot from outside the area.
In the last action before the end, Dalli served substitute Malcolm Saleeb with a cross from the left and Faenza turned the ball to a corner with a fine diving save following the latter’s close-range shot.
