Birzebbuga share top spot after easy win

Birzebbuga had an easy outing against Marsa by scoring six goals without any reply. They share top spot with Kirkop United having maximum points from 5 games while Marsa have only 2 points also from 5 games.
The early pressure came from Birzebbuga. Chris Mangion pounced on a faulty clearance and drove out from outside the area. Gianluca Lia was fouled on the right edge of the area and Clayton Camilleri drove slightly out from the free kick and the same player was again fouled and the ball was cleared away from the free kick by Jean C Cassar.
Birzebbuga opened their account in the 18th minute when Chris Cutajar served Lia with a long throw-in in the area and he scored with a lobbed ball over the on-rushing Marsa keeper Chris Agius.
In the 20th minute Marsa created their only action in the first period as Shaun Falzon released Brady Agius on the left flank who after advancing drove over the bar.
The south sea-siders kept pressing and mounted another two actions. Matthew Brincat served Nicolai Tabone in the area but he drove out with only Agius to beat and from a flag kick by Cassar the ball was cleared to another corner.
A minute after the restart Birzebbuga doubled their lead when Cutajar served Lia with a through ball outside the area and after he was fouled Cutajar scored a beauty with a rising shot from the resultant free kick.
In an action by Marsa, Sean Vella was fouled on the left flank and Birzebbuga keeper Karl Abela saved the free kick shot by substitute Clyde Debattista in two attempts.
The score became 3-0 in the 47th minute as Manuel Azzopardi released Nicolai Tabone in the area and he scored with a hard low drive and three minutes later Azzopardi scored with a rising shot from inside the area after a Cutajar through ball to make it 4-0.
The fifth goal was scored in the 56th minute after a choral move between three players.Cassar served Tabone with a through ball outside the area, the latter returned the compliment to Lia in the area who scored with a grounder.
Marsa then mounted two actions. Jade Farrugia was fouled on the right flank and the ball was headed away from the free kick by Agius and Daniel Zammit controlled a loose ball and substitute keeper Matthew Saleeb saved his effort from outside the area.
Eight minutes before the end Birzebbuga scored their sixth goal when substitute Joshua Farrugia was fouled outside the area and after substitute Alex Muscat floated a high ball in the area from the free kick Azzopardi scored from inside the area.
