Pace setters Valletta did not manage to get the full points against reigning Champions Birkirkara as both teams shared the spoils in an exciting game that produced no less than four goals in a 2-2 draw.

Paul Zammit, Birkirkara’s mentor opted to start with goalkeeper Manuel Bartolo in a his initial 4-3-3 formation. Defender Nikola Vukanac and skipper Michael Galea also featured in the Stripes’ starting eleven. Jesmond Zerafa amended his team with just one change from Valletta’s last game ( 1-0 win against Qormi). Ex Birkirkara player Roderick Briffa, today wearing the Valletta jersey, was inserted in the initial line up to replace Nigerian striker Joseph Okwonkwo in a typically 4-4-1-1 formation for the Whites.

After a series of saves by Bartolo, Birkirkara opened the score thanks to Trevor Cilia as he scored his first goal of the season. Valletta managed to equalise thanks to a Kevin Sammut powerful low shot. Jamie Pace gave the lead to Valletta five minutes before the half-time break.

At the start of the second half  Zerafa’s team could have made it 3-1 but goalkeeper Manuel Bartolo saved a penalty taken by Denni Dos Santos after the latter was tackled by Paul Fenech inside the box. Nine minutes from time,  man of the match Trevor Cilia levelled the score for Birkirkara to make rubber stamp the final score on 2-2 with a half volley super shot.
