Hibernians continue to impress

Edison Dos Santos produced another impressive display as Hibernians outclass Birkirkara in the second half.

Hibernians have seven points from three games as Birkirkara suffered their first defeat of the season and dropped to fourth place on six points.

Rodolfo Soares scored on the stroll of the first half as in the last twenty minutes Edison Dos Santos and Clayton Failla goals confirmed Hibernians as  title challengers in this year’s campaign.

Birkirkara mentor Patrick Curmi started a typically 4-3-3 formation as wingers Trevor Cilia and Leightom Grech supported centre striker Avila Moises. Ternece Vella and Paul Fenech replaced Andrew Decesare and Rowen Muscat from the 3-1 victory against Mosta.

Hibernians mentor Mark Miller started an offensive 4-4-2 formation as striker Marcelo Dias made his debut after missing the start of the season as he replaced Triston Caruana. Defender Jonathan Pearson returned for the Paolites but only to make it in the eighteen man squad. Hibernians were coming from a 2-1 victory against modern rivals Marsaxlokk.

First Half

6min: Hibernians made their intensions clear as a Clayton Failla’s powerful shot just missed the target.

14min: Diego Balbinot’s long range shot was off target.

17min: Hibernians continued to impress in the first minutes as Marcello Dias’  shot nearly skimmed Jorge Mora’s post.

28min: We had to wait for half an hour for Birkirkara’s first test as former Hibernians prodigy Leighton Grech’s powerful shot was saved in two attempts by Mario Muscat after he was served by hard worker Alan Tabone.

45min: Hibernians opened the score !!! Rodolfo Soares opened his Hibernians encounter after he anticipated a Jorge Mora’s error to put the Paolites up front on the stroll of the first half.

Second Half

60min: Edison Dos Santos’ effort hit the post after he lobbed the ball on Jorge Mora.

67min: Trevor Cilia’s shot wide from the edge of the penalty area as Birkirkara kept pushing for the equaliser.

73min: Edison Luis Dos Santos scored the fourth of the season after he anticipated an indecision by Zerafa and goalkeeper Jorge Mora to score in an empty net.

78min: Clayton Failla scored his second of the season and the third for Hibernians as he concluded in an empty net from an Edison Dos Santos’ low cross.

90min: Penalty for Hibernians!! Jorge Mora saved an Andrew Cohen shot.
