Marsaxlokk moved to the second place of the Premier League table with nine points, two points under leaders Valletta, after Patrick Curmi’s side saw off Birkirkara with an emphatic 5-2 win.

Marsaxlokk played their fifth match of the season in a bid to remain the only unbeaten team along with Valletta this season.

Carlo Mamo was playing his first game against his former 2009/10 season team mates with whom he had won the League.

Missing for the Stripes were Rowen Muscat, Shaun Bajada and Alan Tabone.  On the other hand the southern seasiders were missing Emil Yanchev and Garreth Sciberras both nursing injuries. Julio Alcorse was on the bench since he was not fully fit.

Marsaxlokk’s coach Curmi came out with a 4-1-4-1 game plan, whilst Paul Zammit started with a 4-2-3-1 approach.

It was Alfred Effiong’s day as the Nigerian born striker had the opportunity to redeem personal glory no less than four times as he was awarded also the player of the match honour.

Birkirkara’s defense looked sloppy all throughout the game and it became more vulnerable after the score was 4-1 since coach Paul Zammit opted for a three in line defense when pulling off Harding replacing him by Pulo, the latter placed up front along with Galea.
