Sprint Triathlon in Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq to kick off summer calendar

Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club will be launching their 16th edition of its Summer of Sport programme, on Sunday 5th June kicking off with the first race of the BSJ Sprint Triathlon Series which will make a welcome return to the Bahar ic-Caghaq Coast Road. Race will start at 7:30am.

Athletes and sporting enthusiasts will sail through the summer months competing in the now established events organized annually by the Birkirkara Club in athletics, swimming and triathlon. All events will be held under the auspices of the respective National Federations.

The Club has registered a constant increase in the number of persons participating in these events over the past few years. The events consist of four sprint triathlons, three 5-kilometre road running races and the open water swimming championships with five 2-kilometre swims and one four kilometres long. The classic Malta-Gozo-Malta and Gozo-Malta open water swimming competitions will this year be held on the last Saturday of August.

Although the majority of events will take place in the summer months, the Club’s newest and largest venture to-date will take place during the last weekend of November. The revamped Malta International Challenge Marathon, this year supported by Eurosport, will see athletes undertake a 42km run spread over a period of three days, on new fast routes around the island. The last commitment for the Birkirkara Club will be the annual Eurosport Fleur-de-Lys Road Running Race held on the 13th December, and will host at 10k and 5k run. This race will bring the curtain down on a 21-race programme organized by the Club during 2016.

“With over forty years of experience in the field, we are proud of the growth the Club has registered over the years – not only in terms of participation but also through the larger and higher profile events the Club is organising”, commented Euchar Camilleri, Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club Secretary General. “we are naturally grateful and indebted to the various organisations and sponsors that contribute towards the success of these events”.

Information, regulations and entry forms for these events are available on the Club’s website http://www.bkarastjoseph.com
