Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club – Power Bar Open Water Swimming Championships 2012

Females open water swimming champion Davina Mangion made her comeback to the sport and claimed victory over current championship leader Saho Harada in the Power Bar Open Water Swimming Championships 2012.  Edward Caruana Dingli continued with his positive results to maintain his unbeaten run in these championships.

 

The third race of the Power Bar Open Water Swimming Championships organised by Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club , under the auspices of the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta, was held recently at St. Paul’s Bay.  One hundred and thirty-seven swimmers have taken part in these championships in both the males and females categories.

 

Edward Caruana Dingli was again unchallenged in the third race going round the four 500-metre laps in a time of 25 minutes 11 seconds, a personal best assisted by the perfect race conditions.  Under 14 swimmer Thomas Wareing finished the race in 29 minutes one second, ahead of current champion Robert Demicoli who finished one second later.  Five other swimmers – Simon Zammit, David Agius Lia, Robert Vella, Wayne Agius and Kyle Buhagiar – managed to stop the clock under 30 minutes.

 

Returning from her studies in the United Kingdom, reigning open water swimming champion Davina Mangion made a winning comeback, cruising to victory in 27 minutes, 12 seconds.  Current championship leader Saho Harada swam the 2 kilometres in 28 minutes 58 seconds.  Hannah Pace was third in 29 minutes 52 seconds.
